Any chance you were running X and the S3 card in the system is a Trio64?

Any chance you could boot the kernel that you run 5.1 with, and see if it
still freezes with the 5.2 installed stuff?

Any chance you could tell us what *kind* of 21164 you are running; PC164?
EB164? LX164? ALCOR? ANd are you booting from ARC/AlphaBIOS or SRM?
