I'm sorry, what was the problem with the rawhide egcs-1.1.1-4?  I've been
using it without any problems.  Of course, I'm also using glibc-2.1 from
rawhide so perhaps this has something to do with it...

Also, rebuilding a compiler with itself should not be necessary; the
compiler build process should already do that in "stage 3".
