Lessee here....
GCC version
gcc -v
Reading specs from /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/alpha-unknown-linux-gnu/egcs-2.91.57/specs
gcc version egcs-2.91.57 19980901 (egcs-1.1 release)

Binutils version
ld -v
GNU ld version 2.9.1 (with BFD 2.9.1.0.4)

The gcc is 1.1b built from sources on the cygnus egcs site.
binutils is from an rpm:

binutils-2.9.1.0.4-3

I swear I can't get a booting kernel to save my life. What are you using
to build it , egcs version and from where? Also what ver of binutils are
you using? I've been using egcs 1.1.1 built from scratch and I still
can't get pass "jumping to kernel". Thanks.
