When the Disney crew got up to Canada, they found that the "hordes of
lemmings running off a cliff into the sea" story was a pure myth. But
they needed to get the shot, so they built fences and drove the lemmings
off the cliff.

Lemmings have a natural population cycle, and sometimes migrate in large
numbers, but never "commit suicide"
