Jauder,

I am a bit confused by your question(s).

Are you asking about LDAP referrals?  This is the situation where an
LDAP request gets sent (or referred) to another server.  Somehow that
doesn't seem to mesh with the second part of your post

Are you asking about typedown?  This is the feature where, as you type,
automagically the closest matching name pops into the dialog box.  This
does seem to answer....

To be more complete, yes, LDAP is an excellent solution.  The upcoming
version of the LDAP SDK can help you with this.  The new C version is
due real soon now!  Java will be RTM real real soon now!  I would be
glad to entertain any other questions on this...
