And I accept the label "lazy tool"  gladly.

Actually it's not that I'm lazy, I am not a developer, and even if I was,
have zero time to add features ... it's just a feature that ought to have
been there.

Again, imagine the sysadmin who has to maintain this on many machines.
Installing and maintaining an app on one system ins one thing, but consider
hundreds ... the less external kluding together of scripts and other programs
the better. I should be able to roll out an app without a lot of additional
schtuff to make it work.
