Help a newbie, please
Hi,
Since my last post got such quick reply's I figured this is the place to get some answers, please feel free to answer any of the below q's.
My situation: just installed Linux to work as a router and firewall (which works fine) the next thing I'd like it to do is let it function as a webserver. So I can ftp files to it, here's where the Mysql comes into play. For testing purposes I'd like to be able to use the Mysql service on this machine. I've installed the MySQL GUI and mysql is installed on the machine and running. Here's the questions:
1. I need to setup users that use the various db's is this admin all done by 'root'?
2. MySQL employs a user acces system...how do I add users and change permissions etc? Is this done with MySQL syntax in a consol or can MySQLGUI do this? (I saw a user admin screenshot of the GUI on mysql.com)
3. The GUI seems to need the FLTK widgets how does one install these? I've gotten the '.tar.gz' files but ran into problems >> what exactly do you need? I've got the following installed : fl_editor-0.3 , fltk-1.0.10 , flvw-200022.4, mysqlgui-linux-1.7.4 Do I need these to get to user admin?
4. <off topic> Where do I setup user access through FTP? e.g so my machine works like a server where I can upload files (php-scripts) that use mysql. In other words where is the server admin configuration or however it's called?
Those were my questions thanx for your consideration.
Cheers
Stef F.
