Followup to "Issue starting mysql 3.23.30-gamma"

Just an update:

I just downloaded fresh source onto a separate FreeBSD 4.1.1-release
machine that had no previous instance of MySQL installed, and the
install went off without a hitch.

Any ideas why it would work on one box and not the other?
