Got an error reading communication packets

  I have been getting this error quite a bit, and 
keep losing my access to the database from my
persistent connection, it seems... any idea where
I should be looking to solve the problem?

Mysql 3.23.34 on Solaris 2.7

Error is:

010315 14:39:23  Aborted connection 5 to db: 'dashboard' user: 'webdev' host: `localhost' (Got an error reading communication packets)
010315 14:58:40  Aborted connection 58 to db: 'events' user: 'webdev' host: `localhost' (Got an error reading communication packets)
