Incremental DB backups

I am trying to figure out how to use the binary log
for incremental backups.  I have read the section for
this in the manaul but I have not been able to get it
to work.  My main problem is I don't know the exact
command to use or exactly how the process works.  Any
suggestoins on how to set this up would be greatly
appreciated.
